Story

I'm wing walking for baby Chloe, please help me fly!

2 years ago today (6th September), a beautiful little girl was born to our dear friends Lorna and John. Chloe arrived very early at just 25 weeks and fought so bravely for 3 months to stay here with her Mummy and Daddy but she was just too little to overcome her struggles and Chloe grew her angel wings on 27th November 2016. I had the great privilege of meeting and spending time with this little lady and watched her Mummy caring for her and feeding her. It is a memory that I will cherish forever.

The way in which John and Lorna adored and stayed positive for Chloe and each other throughout that tough time and the way they are dealing with their grief is truly inspirational. They have taught me so much through their experiences and I aspire to be even just a little bit as graceful as they are in the way that they tackle life’s hurdles and the way they work together as a team. We are so blessed to have them as such special friends. Chloe may have been so tiny but she has made such a huge footprint on the world and in so many of our hearts.

Lorna and John are building a beautiful legacy for Chloe and are continuing to help other families dealing with prematurity and it’s battles by supporting Bliss, a charity for babies born premature and sick. Bliss are a phenomenal charity, working hard to empower families on neonatal units, and working so hard for the survival and quality of life for sick and premature babies. They do this through life changing research, working with healthcare workers on the units, and influencing UK policy and practice (such as the recent introduction by the government of 2 weeks bereavement leave for parents who lose a child - of which there was nothing before!

Along with John proudly becoming a Trustee of the charity, Lorna has also volunteered her time, energy and expertise as well as supporting other families going through similar battles that they have met along the way. I know that they will help to make such a difference and are so brave to share their journey.

In honour of Chloe, on 13th September I will be wing walking! Yes, I will be strapped to the top of a bi-plane as it takes to the skies! It may seem crazy but this is my way of doing a little bit to help continue to build Chloe’s legacy by raising some money and awareness for this great charity. So please could I ask you to help me fly……
It can be as much or as little as you can manage – it all helps!

Baby Chloe Filipa Grace Calder, on your 2nd birthday as you look down on your beautiful family, know how much you are loved by so many and thank you for all that you have taught us xx
